MIKIAMI

Project Scale

Public Landscape

Date

2012

Location

Miami - United States of America

Mikiami is a public square designed to reintroduce biodiversity into the urban fabric of Miami while responding to the region’s extreme weather conditions. The project is conceived to withstand hurricanes through robust planting strategies and resilient landscape systems, creating a space that remains safe, legible, and vibrant even under severe climatic stress.

The design integrates misting systems and moisture-retention techniques, combined with climbing plants to enhance humidity and comfort in the public realm. Shade is generated through layered vegetation and structural elements, creating a cooler, more inviting environment while supporting a diverse range of species. The result is a landscape that balances ecological performance with civic presence, offering a resilient and lush urban oasis.
